AFC: Inaugural Meeting

Post by chili » June 12th, 2014, 3:55 am

Getting close to getting the framework for the engine all setup and integrated. Spent the last couple of day fixing some sketchy code relating to clockwise/counter-clockwise conventions, now I just have to integrate some (relatively simple) collision and momentum stuff and I'll be able to start on the systems and structure of the actual engine itself.

My goal is to have the skeleton of the system sketched out in code by next weekend (21st), and I think that would be a good time to hold our first meeting. It would be nice to discuss some things before any details of the engine are coded, and I'd like to hear everyone's ideas as well.

Now coordinating our meetings is a problem that I've been thinking a lot about. We all live in different time zones and have our own schedules, so it will be difficult to find a time that works for a majority of members. I can't find any good tools online that do exactly what we need, so we'll have to improvise. I've set up a spreadsheet on Google Docs that you guys can edit (you don't even need an account). Just color in the times that you can meet up. I picked GMT for the timezone, so you'll probably have to do a little time math.

Here is what's on the docket so far:
  • Chili explains system architecture
  • Exchange ideas / thoughts / critique on the system architecture
  • Discuss game mechanics / physics details
  • Division of engine coding responsibilities
Let me know of any other topics you think we should cover and I'll add them to the docket.

Here's the link for spreadsheet, let me know if you have any problems:

It's dangerous to time math alone! Take this:

Hmm it's kinda hard to say. At least the 21st is a no no, that's midsummer's eve and everyone's out drinking and drowning. 22nd might be good but probably I'm way too hungover unless I have downed as people tend to here on that particular day. Also I have a part time job so I might get a call to work at a moments notice, but I'll see what times "might" work.

Yup that's fine. It's over a week ahead so it's hard to say for sure, but just your best estimate will be fine. If things change and people can't make it so be it.

@cameron
Just GMT, no plus or minus. Also known as UTC.

@L1fe
I think skype will do what we need. We need text and optionally voice, the ability to share a whiteboard, and the ability to broadcast a screen.

L1FeMaKeR: I think we should use three-eyed ravens. Then we could all run after 'em maybe we'd all run into one another.

Sadly that weekend is one of the worst ones for me this year, going to be out of town until the 22nd.

Well, if you think you can spare an hour or so give it your best guess, and if things change in the meantime so be it. I hope you can make the meeting this time, but if you can't there will be others so don't worry about it bro.
