Failure

Post by chili » June 8th, 2012, 7:12 am

It seems like the god of hardware failures has decided to take a big steamy dump on my video card, so mayhap there will be no lesson on the weekend.

Hi Chilli,

Usually the first thing to do with a video card is to take it out and clean the contacts carefully with pure alchohol.
Then do the same with the motherboard.

I am also wondering if you are getting radio interference, or it could be bad earth on the plug of your computer.
A dying PSU can cause similar effects also.

Well, if he upgraded, I'm pretty sure that he is putting more strain on his PSU. I believe the problem lies with the driver(???) or what you said, Asimov.

Nope, it was a hardware failure. Most likely loose (high impedance) connection to a VRAM chip cause by heat stress warping. I'm not the only one who has had this problem. One solution I found on the net was to bake your board in the oven, but this card is a couple of years old now so I might as well upgrade. ;)
