Pong!

Post by Hydrasin » May 31st, 2012, 8:19 pm

Sup bros, I decided to take a whack at a making Pong. I think I've taken it as far as I can with what I know(up to lesson 14) and my skill level (peon). Check it out, and feel free to make suggestions, additions, whatever. Some stuff I was thinking might be cool to add might be:

-Title Screen / difficulty / quit options
-increased ball velocity over time (but reset to start speed after score)
-having the ball angle off the paddle more sharply closer to the ends
-return to title screen at finish of game (after user presses enter)
-pause function
-having a delay before the ball starts moving at the beginning and after each point is scored
-make stand alone executable?( i dunno how to do that  )

Also I'm sure some of my functions are down right retardedly constructed. So again, suggestions and pointers are greatly appreciated :) Otherwise, enjoy!

PS the game never loses unless you manually increase the ball velocity or slow down the enemy paddle(MoveEBlock function)

PPS I'm gonna be afk till monday but am looking forward to hearing your input!

Hi Hydrasin,

Nice go. It plays well.

I know it isn't in the original pong but I can think of a cool feature.
When you hit the ball at a sharp angle it could create spin on the ball, which would also increase velocity.

Hey I wonder if Chilli is going to do a networking tutorial, now that would be cool. You could have network pong.

Very nicely done bro. Thanks for sharing!
Your code itself looks well made to me. Excellent style and organization.

If you plan on making a title screen, wait until lesson 21. Being able to
render text will make your life much easier. ;)

What do you mean by "stand alone"?

I think he means the debug executable by stand alone executable? Which of course can be found in the debug folder after you have at least once dubugged the project.

Hey guys, thanks for checkin out my game and code.

Asimov, I was thinking the same thing about the ball angling off the paddles. I think it was the third thing I listed on possible additions to the game. I'm definitely gonna try adding it later.

Chili & Lux, what I meant by a stand alone executable was the application in the Release folder. (I tooled around a little more and found it.) I don't really know if "stand alone exe" was the correct term to describe what I was looking for... again, I am just a wee nublet :P

But thanks again for checkin out my stuffs!

Hydrasin

PS I'll be trying to implement that list of ideas I had so if anyone has anything they wanna tack on to it, by all means please do!
